VINI

Vineyards

I farm less than a hectare of vineyard in Cormons, near Gorizia, and an old family vineyard in Gorizia. I do not use any herbicides, synthetic fertilisers or fungicides in either of them. I manage the bud load and the vigour of the vines to avoid bunch thinning, canopy topping and defoliation. The permanent grass cover is mowed late in the season to encourage pollination, both for the vineyard and the surrounding environment. I closely follow the weather forecasts and monitor the presence of diseases in the vineyard in order to use little sulphur and copper, and only if really useful. The soil texture is loamy, with stones and an impenetrable layer at a depth of 60 cm which limits root deepening. All this allows for a frequent and moderate induction of water stress, which promotes the development of high quality grapes.
